Karpat U20

Kärpät U20 have taken the U20 SM-sarja four times, twice against HIFK in the final — in 1985 and again in 2010, a quarter-century apart — with the other two titles coming in 1979 against Tappara and in 2019 against Blues. Runner-up finishes in 1978, 2006, 2014, 2018 and 2021 fill in the gaps between them.

That consistency traces back to the wider club, founded on 15 May 1946 as a multi-sport society before the hockey section split off the following year. The U20 side draws its name and its ermine badge straight from the senior team, and the pipeline between the two has produced a long list of players who went on to the Liiga and the NHL — Jesse Puljujärvi, Sebastian Aho and Rasmus Ristolainen among them, along with goaltenders Mikko Koskinen and Justus Annunen.

Since 2000 the senior and U20 teams have operated under the limited company Oulun Kärpät Oy, with the original association, Oulun Kärpät 46 ry, left to run the younger junior ranks and women's hockey.

The team plays out of Oulun Energia Areena, expanded to 6,485 seats in a 2018 renovation, well beyond what most junior fixtures require.
