Dynamo
Two stadiums have stood on this footprint. The first opened in Petrovsky Park in 1928 and later drew a crowd of 71,430 at its peak. Michael Jackson filled the same bowl to a similar number in July 1996. It came down in 2012.
What replaced it binds two arenas under a single roof: a football pitch and an ice rink. The rebuild kept one piece of the old ground — the historic facade of the West stand, carried over rather than rebuilt from scratch. The hockey arena opened first, in January 2019; the footballers followed in May, with a 3-3 draw against Arsenal Tula in front of 23,340. Weeks later, an RFU commission ruled the new pitch unfit to host the Dynamo–Spartak derby, and the whole surface had to be relaid before the fixture went ahead.
A sponsorship deal gave the ground a second identity for five years — VTB Arena, after the bank's naming rights — before that arrangement ended around the turn of 2025 and the stadium reverted to its fuller title, honouring Lev Yashin. Concerts fill the calendar between fixtures: Kipelov played its largest show here in 2024, alongside dates from Aria, Kino tributes and Mumiy Troll in recent years.
