What sets the Barradão apart in Salvador is that it belongs to one club and always has. There is no ground-share, no split loyalty across the terraces — Esporte Clube Vitória have run this ground since it opened, and the name people still use, Barradão, has outlasted the official one.

The stadium opened in 1986 with Vitória hosting Santos, a match that finished 1-1, and the current shell dates largely from a 1991 rebuild that added the end stands and brought the ground back into service under a new capacity. That renovation logic has repeated itself since: the Barradão has been through periods of closure for work rather than one continuous, unbroken history, and it is closed again now, mid-project, with the capacity you see quoted reflecting the reduced, work-in-progress limit rather than a settled final figure.

Pitch-wise, Vitória have kept to a Bermuda Celebration natural surface, the kind of turf choice a club makes when it wants a pitch that holds up to Salvador's climate rather than one picked for appearances.

Set in the Canabrava district, away from the coastal postcards of the city, it has never needed a second identity — it is simply Vitória's ground, and the rebuilding under way now is aimed at pushing it well past its current numbers once finished.
