It is not a new build, and the colour does not hide what has survived. Estadio Marte R. Gómez was not a single project; it is a structure that changed its bones twice. The original wooden stands were dismantled and replaced by reinforced concrete between 1962 and 1965, and a further renovation in 2007 fitted the bowl with permanent seating. The result is a stadium that feels anchored to the city rather than rising above it.

What stands out is the track. The red athletics surface runs tight against the grass, keeping the away end close enough to the touchline that the game feels cramped. A giant orange shirt is draped over the fence in the foreground, a banner that does not move when the wind picks up. The floodlights are tall, white metal towers that lean slightly over the pitch, casting long shadows at night. In the foreground, a statue on a stone plinth stands between the road and the stadium, a quiet monument to the governor who commissioned the original facility.

Correcaminos UAT have played here since 1980, and the club’s history is written into the concrete more than in the stands. The crowd does not travel to make up the numbers; they are local, and the atmosphere is defined by the proximity of the track rather than the height of the stands. The only time the stadium has truly tested itself was during the 2011 Liga de Ascenso Final. The real figure is less important than the fact that the stadium has not been expanded to match the town’s growth.
