Bukovyna and Zorya (Luhansk) played out a 1:1 draw in the Ukrainian Premier League's sixth round at the Bukovyna stadium on Sunday. Perduta struck early for the hosts before Tankovskiy answered for the visitors in the closing stages of the match.
Perduta found the net in the seventh minute, a moment that left the home side buoyant for the rest of the half. Zorya clawed their way back into contention, but Bukovyna saw the game out with composure. By then it was clear this would be a tight affair, and several yellow cards confirmed the intensity.
The second half brought more tension rather than clarity. Zorya pressed forward, looking for an equaliser, and Tankovskiy finally made the difference in the 81st minute. The crowd roared them on, but Bukovyna held on grimly through the final minutes. There were more bookings to follow, including one for Tankovskiy himself.
Statistics tell the story of a match where possession didn't equate to control. Bukovyna enjoyed 61 per cent of the ball and registered eight shots on target, yet only converted once. Zorya managed just two shots on target from their 39 per cent possession, but came close enough to earn a point.
The result keeps both sides in the lower half of the table, separated by a single point. Zorya remain eighth on eight points, while Bukovyna sit ninth with seven. Neither side can afford too much slip, especially given the irregular form both have shown recently.
We had backed the visitors with 70 per cent confidence, but the match refused to follow that logic. Bukovyna never got out of second gear after Perduta's goal, and Zorya simply couldn't find a way through until it mattered least. To be fair, this is football — uneven is human, even is machine.
