Velupillay broke the deadlock on 31 minutes, latching onto a delivery inside the area to finish past the goalkeeper. Hoffenheim II responded before half-time when Y. Zor equalised on 43 minutes, tapping in after sustained pressure. The hosts had a yellow card for Klaus Gjasula on 29 minutes just before their goal fell.

Hoffenheim II registered six shots on target compared to four for Ingolstadt, while also earning nine corners to four. Neither side created a big chance all evening — efficiency mattered more than volume.
