Match report
Gyor ETO claimed a three-two victory over Honved in the Hungarian NB I on Sunday evening. The result keeps the hosts fifth in the table on nine points from seven games, while Honved remain eleventh with six points from six matches. And here's the thing about this one — it could have gone either way until the final whistle.
Daniel Štefulj opened the scoring in the 67th minute before his effort was confirmed by VAR two minutes later. Reda Eddarraj equalised for the visitors in the 75th hour, and the match looked settled until Norbert Urblik found the net in stoppage time. I. Pekár levelled moments later, and then Miljan Krpic converted a penalty in the 90+8th minute to send the home crowd wild.
We had tipped Gyor ETO to win this one with 93 per cent confidence, and the prediction came good. They were dominant in the air from set plays throughout, and that aerial presence finally paid off in the dying stages. By then, Honved had already seen their momentum stall after Eddarraj's substitution in the 84th minute.
Gyor ETO held 51 per cent possession and attempted 17 shots, five on target. Honved were more clinical with their chances, registering eight shots on target from 13 attempts with 44 per cent accuracy. The hosts had seven blocked shots and three corners, while the visitors earned six corners and committed 17 fouls compared to ten for Gyor ETO.
The result means Gyor ETO have one foot in the next round of European qualification contention, while Honved have not won since their 1-0 victory over Zalaegerszeg on August 29th. Both sides showed character in the final minutes, but it was the home side's depth that proved decisive when Krpic stepped up for the penalty.
