Nordsjælland Women took on Midtjylland Women in the seventh round of the KvindeLigaen on Tuesday evening, and the home side emerged 4-1 winners in front of a sell-out crowd. The result moves the hosts level on points with the league leaders, while the visitors drop a little further behind.
It was a flurry of goals early on. G. Sery opened the scoring in the 30th minute, and N. Mulvad Gejel added a second just four minutes later. I. Rathe made it three before the half-hour mark was reached, and by then Nordsjælland were already in control. N. Ouedraogo added a fourth in the 58th minute, and F. Hojer rounded off the scoring with a late goal in the 87th minute.
We had the home side winning with 53 per cent confidence before kick-off, and to be fair the performance backed that up. Nordsjælland turned it on early, and Midtjylland never really got into a rhythm. The visitors looked disjointed, and when they lost the ball they were caught in transitions too often.
There were several changes made during the match. H. Fruensgaard and A. Engsig-Karup came on together for the home side in the 60th minute, while C. La Cour and B. Gamede also appeared. Midtjylland brought on N. Mulvad Gejel in the 70th minute, and M. Kaihoj and A. Givskov came on together at the hour-and-a-half mark. M. Majasaari and G. Sery also saw action, with Sery coming off late in the game.
Before the match, the hosts sat second with 16 points from seven games—five wins, one draw, one loss. Midtjylland were third with 14 points, having won four and drawn twice. The gap between them was always going to be tested, and this result widens it to two points.
