About the player
Gabriel Grando's path to Grêmio's goal began away from grass. He joined the club's academy in 2014, working his way up through the under-15, under-17 and under-20 sides. He signed his first professional contract in March 2021.
Since then, Grando has been part of squads that won the Campeonato Gaúcho in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024, and the Recopa Gaúcha in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2025. His contract was extended to run to the end of 2026.
In April 2024 he moved to Cruzeiro on loan, in a deal that saw Rafael Cabral move the other way to Grêmio. Cruzeiro held an option to sign him permanently but did not take it up, and Grando made no competitive appearances for the club's first team before returning to Grêmio in January 2025.
His name has come up at international level, too, though not yet on the pitch. Tite called him into the senior Brazil squad in November 2021 for World Cup qualifiers, and in August 2023 Ramon Menezes selected him for the under-23 side ahead of friendlies against Morocco and preparation for the Pan American Games. He is still to win a senior cap.
