About the player
He finished his youth development at Boston River without a single senior appearance and was released in early 2022, then made his senior debut that same year with Tacuarembó, helping the club win the Primera División Amateur and reach the Segunda División. He stayed for the 2023 Segunda División campaign before a free transfer to Montevideo City Torque in January 2024, a move that paid off almost immediately: the club earned promotion to the Primera División that year.
The breakthrough came in January 2025, when Nacional paid a reported fee of between €770,000 and €800,000 for 60% of his rights. At Nacional he won the Supercopa Uruguaya and the Campeonato Uruguayo in the same year.
During a Copa Libertadores match against Atlético Nacional in May 2025, Villalba was clocked at a top speed of 38.3 km/h, a figure cited at the time as the fastest recorded speed by a football player anywhere in the world.
On the international stage, he featured for the Uruguay Local Team in a friendly against Guatemala in August 2024, and received his first call-up to the senior Uruguay national team in September 2026 for a set of friendlies.
