Lucas Gabriel Monzón Lemos

Lucas Monzón was born in Jaguarão and had to look past two rejections before the game gave him a foothold: trials at Peñarol and Liverpool did not lead anywhere, and it was Juventud de Las Piedras that gave him his first structured football before Danubio took him into its academy. He made his professional debut for Danubio in August 2020, and the club used him rather than settled him, sending him out on loan twice within a year: first to Montevideo Wanderers, then to New York Red Bulls, where the move produced a single senior appearance and two more for the club's reserve side before the loan was cut short by mutual agreement.

He returned to Danubio to finish out his contract, then left for nothing in 2024, signing for Racing Club de Montevideo on a free transfer. That spell was the busiest of his career so far — 34 appearances and a single goal — and it built the value that took him abroad again, this time on loan to Atlético Junior in Colombia. The move up in profile continued from there: Botafogo bought 60% of his economic rights from Racing Montevideo for around US$800,000, a fee that ended his loan spell at Junior early.

A left-footed centre-back, Monzón has represented Uruguay at under-20 level and later won a single cap for the country's "local" national team, a separate squad used for matches outside FIFA windows, in a game against Guatemala. He has not yet been called into the senior Uruguay side.
