About the player
Nelson Guillermo Guaiquil Ruiz is a graduate of Huachipato's own academy. Before that, he led Huachipato's under-19 side as captain in 2022, beating Universidad de Chile in the final of the Fútbol Joven Sub-19 Championship and taking the club through to the Copa Libertadores Sub-20. He made his senior debut in the Copa Chile in April 2023, then followed it with his first Primera División appearance that August. By the end of the year he had a league title to show for it: Huachipato were crowned champions of the 2023 Chilean Primera División, the club's first since 2012.
The following season took him away from Huachipato for the first time. In March 2024 he joined Unión San Felipe in the Primera B on loan, making 13 appearances before the move was cut short in June. He returned to Huachipato only briefly before going out on loan again, this time to Segunda División side San Antonio Unido, where he added ten appearances and two goals to his tally.
A right-footed defender who stands 175 cm tall, Guaiquil has built his career so far around the club that developed him.
