Huachipato

Javier Margas wore the captain's armband at Huachipato before Chile took him to the 1998 World Cup. The workers of the Huachipato mill founded the side in June 1947, and the connection has never been dropped: the black-and-blue striped shirts belong to Los Acereros, the Steelworkers.

Promotion came slowly. The club joined the Talcahuano football association in 1950, won regional titles in 1956 and 1964, and only entered professional football in 1965, in the second division. A year later it went up. The first match in the Chilean Primera División was played on 9 April 1967.

The league title arrived in 1974, then not again for 38 years, until the 2012 Clausura. A third followed in 2023. Between those wins the academy did much of the club's work: Gary Medel came through it before winning the Copa América with Chile in 2015 and 2016, and Felipe Loyola followed the same route to the national team.

The stadium holds a little over 10,000.

Huachipato had reached a Copa Chile final in 2013–14 and lost it to Deportes Iquique. The second attempt, in 2025, went to penalties against Deportes Limache, and this time the side held their nerve. It is the club's first Copa Chile, and it comes a decade after the 2015 conversion into a sporting joint-stock company — the structure through which Huachipato now defends a place near the top of the Chilean game.
