Home games at Santa Laura still carry the same script when Audax Italiano come to visit: supporters call it the Clásico de colonias, a fixture rooted in the Spanish and Italian immigrant communities that built the two clubs a short walk apart, and Palestino sometimes gets drawn into the same rivalry.

The badge goes back to 1897, among the oldest still active in Chilean football, and the Spanish thread has stayed visible in the shirt ever since: red is the main colour, yellow rides alongside it as a nod to the Spanish flag, with blue shorts and black socks underneath. The nicknames follow the same line — Hispanos, and La Furia, sometimes La Furia Roja. Union Española plays out of Estadio Santa Laura – Universidad SEK, which now holds 19,887.

The honours begin before the professional era, with Apertura titles through the 1930s. Championships followed in 1943 and 1951, and further success came under coach Luis Santibáñez, who won the league in 1973, 1975 and 1977 and took Union Española to the final of the Copa Libertadores in 1975, with Juan Machuca and Leonardo Véliz in that side; Guillermo Yávar finished as the league's top scorer in 1973. A further title arrived in 2005, and 2013 brought the league and the Supercopa in the same year.

Santibáñez is still the name most attached to that period at Union Española — three championships and a continental final inside five seasons.
