Coquimbo Unido

Coquimbo Unido enter this season as champions of Chile for the first time, the 2025 Primera División title now backed by a Supercopa triumph and the club's first Copa Libertadores campaign.

The club was formed in 1958 in the port city of Coquimbo, and its nickname, Los Piratas, comes straight from that history — the city's past with corsairs along the coast gave the crest its pirate figure, worn now in the club's yellow and black.

The championship took decades to arrive. Coquimbo Unido reached the top flight in 1963. It spent long spells outside it after that, returning through Primera B titles that came again in 2018 and 2021. The wait ended in 2025, when the club beat Unión La Calera 2-0 in the final. The title arrived 67 years after Coquimbo Unido was founded. The Supercopa de Chile followed in 2026, won on penalties against Universidad Católica after a goalless draw. A Copa Sudamericana semi-final in 2020 had already shown the club could compete at that level.

Home games are played at the Estadio Municipal Francisco Sánchez Rumoroso, rebuilt for the 2008 World Cup. Capacity rose to 18,750, up from 15,000, in the process.

Marcelo Corrales remains the club's leading scorer in the Primera División, with 56 goals in the mid-2000s. Arturo Díaz is remembered for the goal that won the 1962 title, and the Brazilian trio of Liminha, Bené and Torinho for their spell in 1979. The 2025 squad's most recognisable name was Jean Beausejour, the Chile international who played that season.

Deportes La Serena provide the fiercest test of the calendar. Matches between the two are known as the Clásico de la Región de Coquimbo, played out between neighbouring cities on Chile's north-central coast.
