Dinamo Samarqand

Samarkand's Dinamo traces back to 1960. The club went through spells as Spartak, Sogdiana, Marokand, Afrosiyob and plain Samarkand before the Dinamo name returned for good in 2009.

The old Soviet years produced the club's clearest silver: the Uzbek SSR title in 1982 and the republic's cup a year later, won as Second League form carried the side to three zonal titles across the early 1980s. A first Uzbek league promotion arrived only in 2016.

No forward at the club is remembered quite like Hamza Jabborov , whose more than 50 goals in Dinamo colours still stand as the club's benchmark; in 1994 he top-scored the entire First League with 24. Jafar Irismetov passed through on his way to a Uzbekistan cap tally of 36 and a spell at Spartak Moscow.

Games against Bukhoro carry weight beyond the table, billed locally as a derby of ancient cities, Samarkand against Bukhara. The home ground, also called Dinamo, now holds 13,800 after a rebuild trimmed capacity down from 16,000, with the stands turning into a solid block of blue on matchdays.
