Gomel II

The senior side in Gomel has been playing football since 1959, under a run of names — Lokomotiv first, then Spartak, Gomselmash, Mashinostroitel, and Gomel from 1995 onwards. The second team exists to feed it. Academy graduates and young signings who need minutes get them here rather than sitting on a bench, and the arrangement was formalised when the side entered the Professional Football League structure in 2017, taking a place in the First League.

No founding date has been fixed in the record. What is fixed is the debut, and the purpose behind it: a competitive step between the academy and the first team, played in the same green and white the senior side wears. There is no separate badge. Gomel II run out under the crest of the parent club, and are described in the same terms — the green-and-whites.

Home is the Central Stadium, the ground the first team uses, with room for 14,307. That is a large house for reserve-team football, and it rarely fills for these fixtures, but the young players train and play on the surface they will inherit. Other venues in the city have been used from time to time; the Central remains the base.

The one honour in the ledger came before the current arrangement. In 2014 the side reached the final of the Belarus Cup for reserve teams and lost it to Minsk. Nothing has been added since. There have been no national titles, and the team has moved between the First League and the Second League without settling.

The 2024 season brought a place in the Second League final stage, which ended without a podium finish. The fixtures that come round most often are against Slavia-Mozyr's second string — the senior clubs contest the Polesie derby, though at this level the meeting carries no particular weight. Promotion out of the third tier is the near-term target.
