Czersk beat Samboř Tczew 39:27 in the First League on Saturday, a result that keeps the hosts unbeaten after four rounds while ending the visitors' run of draws.
Both sides had been scraping points rather than taking them, but the home side found something different in this one. To be fair, that's been the pattern all season — they've won once and drawn three times, a formula that keeps them in the mix without building momentum.
We'd called for the home side beforehand, putting 55 per cent confidence on it. Not a strong position, but the away side's four draws had started to look like a ceiling rather than a foundation, and the home side's recent losses suggested they needed a win badly.
The table tells you where you are without telling you why. Czersk sit ninth with three points, Samboř Tczew fourteenth with none, and neither side has lost a game yet. That's unusual in a league this early, and it means the real work hasn't started.
The visitors' last four results were all draws — against Wibrzeże Gdańsk II, Olsztyn, Mazur Sierpc and two others before that. They'd been hard to beat, which is why we'd been cautious about backing anyone against them. But on this day, the home side made the difference.
It means Czersk have picked up something from their recent run of losses, and Samboř Tczew now face a question they haven't had to answer yet: can they win away from home, or are draws enough for them?
