Emmen secured a comfortable 42-24 victory over Luzern in the Swiss Cup on 16 September 2026. The away side dominated from the opening periods, building a lead that never truly wavered. By the final whistle the gap stood at eighteen goals, a result that reflected the quality difference on display.
Emmen arrived in good form, having won four of their last five matches across all competitions. Their most recent outing saw them lose 38-24 to Artemida, but the result against Luzern suggested a different level of performance. To be fair, handball fixtures often reveal more in the second half when fatigue sets in.
Luzern's recent record showed inconsistency, with victories and defeats alternating without clear pattern. Their last five results included a 39-26 win over Nyon in 2024, but more recent encounters offered little confidence heading into this tie. And here's the thing about cup football — or cup handball in this case — one off day is all it takes to go home early.
The scoreline told the story plainly. Emmen's attack found space where Luzern's defence could not close it down, while the home side struggled to convert their own opportunities. By then the match had settled into a rhythm that favoured the visitors, who controlled tempo and territory.
This result extends Emmen's momentum into the cup competition. Luzern's campaign comes to an end with this defeat, while the away side advances to face whoever emerges from the other side of their bracket. The gap in class was visible throughout, not just in the final score.
