Alberto Contrera

Alberto Contrera arrived at Sportivo Ameliano in July 2023 as a free agent and was made captain, wearing the number 40 shirt on a contract that runs to December 2026. By mid-2025 he had made around 59 league appearances for the club and scored six goals.

Contrera came through at Olimpia, making his senior debut there in 2009 and winning the Paraguayan Primera División in the 2011 Clausura before loan spells at Rubio Ñu and Sportivo Luqueño. A move to General Díaz in 2014 was followed by the switch that shaped his career: in January 2015 he joined Club Guaraní permanently and became a key player there, adding a second league title in the 2016 Clausura. He left Guaraní on loan to Argentina's Patronato de Paraná between 2017 and 2018, then returned to Paraguay, going back to Guaraní in 2020 before a loan to River Plate of Asunción that ran to June 2021, where he made 34 appearances and scored three goals. He returned to Guaraní once more for the 2022–2023 season before his move to Sportivo Ameliano.

At international level, Contrera represented Paraguay at under-20 level, earning three caps and featuring at the 2011 South American U-20 Championship in Peru, where he played against Brazil, Peru and Colombia. He has not been capped by the senior national team.
