Walter Kannemann

Walter Kannemann came through the youth system at San Lorenzo, which he joined in 1999, and made his first-team debut for the club in 2010. He stayed until 2014, a spell that brought him an Argentine Primera División title in the 2013/14 season and the Copa Libertadores in the same year. In January 2015 he moved to Mexico, joining Atlas, where he spent the 2015 and 2016 seasons before Grêmio brought him to Brazil that July.

Kannemann has remained at Grêmio ever since. He has won the Copa do Brasil, the Copa Libertadores, the Recopa Sudamericana and several Campeonato Gaúcho titles with the club, and by 2025 his trophy count with Grêmio had reached 14. His contract has been extended more than once, most recently in August 2023, a deal that runs to the end of 2025, with further talks reported over an extension into 2027.

At international level, Kannemann earned six caps for Argentina between 2018 and 2019 without scoring. He made his debut on 7 September 2018 in a 3-0 friendly win over Guatemala, and went on to feature in wins against Iraq and Mexico that year, as well as matches against Venezuela, Morocco and Ecuador in 2019.
