Budakalász

Budakalász go into this season back in the second tier, having dropped out of the NB I in 2026 after nine straight years among Hungary's elite. Getting back will not be simple against clubs used to the top flight.

It first reached NB I in 2016, when it won the NB I/B Eastern Group and earned promotion under the Budakalász name it had only just adopted. Neither the national championship nor the Hungarian Cup has gone to Budakalász, though 2022 came close — a Cup semi-final ended 27-30 against Fejér-B.Á.L. Veszprém.

Roberto García Parrondo gave the side a name recognised well beyond Hungary: the Spaniard won the EHF Champions League twice before arriving and won 74 caps for his country. President Gábor Hajdu and head coach István Csoknyai now carry the job of plotting an immediate way back up.

The club Budakalász became did not start life under that name. It was founded in 1992 as Szentendre KC, and only in 2015, when its handball operation moved to Budakalász, did it take the identity that now plays in yellow and blue.
