About

The Hungarian Men's Handball Cup is the premier domestic knockout tournament for men's handball in Hungary. Founded in 1951 by the Hungarian Handball Federation, the competition occupies a distinct place in the national pyramid, separate from the Nemzeti Bajnokság I league structure.

Originally established as the Hungarian People's Republic Cup, the title changed to the Hungarian Cup following political shifts in 1989. The format prioritizes competitive balance by integrating teams from lower divisions through preliminary rounds. Top NB I clubs enter later, typically reaching the quarter-final stage before the concluding phase. The final stage operates as a "Final Four" tournament held at a neutral venue, traditionally Tatabánya, ensuring a concentrated conclusion to the season.

Veszprém KC stands as the dominant force in the competition's history. Operating under various sponsored names, including MKB Veszprém and One Veszprém, the club has secured 32 titles. OTP Bank-Pick Szeged follows as the second most successful side with eight wins. In the 2024-25 season, Szeged claimed the title, while One Veszprém HC became the current champion after defeating MOL Tatabánya KC 34-22 in the final.

The tournament does not involve promotion or relegation. It remains distinct from the Hungarian Super Cup, a single-match fixture contested between the league champion and the cup winner. Clubs currently participating include Vecses, Szeged, Csurgói, Mizse, Szazhalombattai, and Veszpremi KKFT. The federation maintains official information through its website and a dedicated cup portal.
