Floriana

Twenty-seven Maltese league titles, and the most recent came this year, in 2025–26. That keeps Floriana level with the reigning champions of Maltese football almost every time the trophy is handed out.

The ground at Independence Ground holds only 3,000, which is why European nights get moved to the National Stadium at Ta' Qali. The home pitch itself has been in continuous use since 1890, first as a cricket field, and the football club that took it over in 1894 opened its ground with a ceremony performed by Queen Alexandra.

The green and white belongs to a specific memory rather than a colour scheme picked at random. Floriana played in green and red until 1905, when a series of friendlies against the Royal Dublin Fusiliers, an Irish regiment stationed on the island, prompted the switch to green and white in solidarity — and gave the club its lasting nickname, Tal-Irish.

No name from that long list of champions is repeated as often around the club as Lolli Bor. Twenty seasons in the Floriana shirt, 220 appearances, 105 goals, seven league titles among them, and a place in Malta's first-ever national team in 1957. He was named the club's footballer of the year in 1961–62, by which point he had already spent longer at Floriana than most players spend in a whole career.
