Seven Latvian championships for the women's team, the most recent haul completed in the 2014-2015 season, and a Latvian Cup added in 2024 with a 23:18 win over Jēkabpils SS — that run has carried SK Latgols further than any club has any obvious right to go. The men's side kept pace for a spell, taking the Virslīga in 2012-2013 and again in 2014-2015.

The club has been at it since 1995. Its best-known product left it rather than stayed: Austris Tuminskis came through the Ludza city gymnasium and SK Latgols before building a career at EHV Aue in Germany, was named Latvia's best player in 2009 and played at the 2020 European Championship. Kaspars Lisovskis went the other way in his career arc, winning four championships with the club between 2010 and 2013 before moving on to Celtnieks Rīga in 2016 — a departure that came only after the trophies, not before.

Home games are played in front of 300 seats at Ludzas sporta halle, a number that puts most of Latgols' silverware at odds with the size of the room it is celebrated in.

The junior team is the club's current stake in the future, having finished third in the First League in the 2025-2026 season.
