Nordwest Women

Before it had a senior side to speak of, HSG Nordwest was building goalkeepers. Leonard Grazioli and Janis Scheidiger both came up through the club's academy and went on to keep goal for the Swiss national team, and Timothy Reichmuth and Gian Attenhofer followed the same path into the wings.

The club itself grew out of a 2015 merger, when TV Pratteln NS and Satus Birsfelden pooled their junior sides under the name HSG Juniorinnen Nordwest. Senior teams came later, built on top of a structure that already had youth handball figured out: the under-17s were crowned Swiss champions in 2019. The senior women, by contrast, have no national trophy to their name.

What the club amounts to now is a collaboration stretched across several Basel-area clubs — TV Birsfelden, RTV 1879 Basel, ATV/KV Basel, HSG Leimental, TV Pratteln NS and TV Magden among them — fielding a first team that has bounced between tiers, dropping out of the top-flight Premium League 1 and settling into the SPL2. Home games are played at the 99er Sporthalle in Therwil.

In the SPL2 table, the fixtures that matter most are local: against ATV/KV Basel, a club from the same city and the same collaborative pool of talent, and against DHB Rotweiss Thun, with promotion and relegation regularly hanging on the results between them.
