Edmonton Oilers beat Anaheim Ducks 5:2 in the NHL on 8 October 2026. The visitors took control early and never looked back, extending their winning run to three games while ending the Ducks' unbeaten start at home.
By then the Ducks had won their opening two matches, against Florida and Vegas, but this time they could not hold their ground. To be fair, Edmonton had been building momentum too — a 3-1 victory over Seattle on 3 October followed by that heavy 9-7 win against Vancouver the day before.
What stands out is the gap between the teams in the table. The Oilers sit fourth after three games with two wins and one loss, while Anaheim, despite two victories, sit seventh with zero points — the early-season standings still say little, but the result suggests a shift already.
And here's the thing about these opening weeks: form is fragile. The Ducks looked comfortable against Florida and Vegas, but against Edmonton they threw everything at it and still found themselves chasing. Edmonton, meanwhile, have nothing to lose and have played accordingly.
The result changes nothing dramatic in the standings yet — both sides still have plenty of room to move. But it does raise questions about whether Anaheim can sustain their unbeaten run, or whether Edmonton's fourth-place position is already solidifying.
