Seattle cruise past Calgary in opening-night thrashing
Seattle Kraken made it two from two against Calgary, running out 6:1 winners at the start of the 2026–27 campaign. The visitors had already beaten the Flames twice this month, and this time they didn't bother to look back.
To be fair, the scoreline told the story early enough. Calgary came out slow, missed their first few chances, and then Seattle picked one up last week and carried it into this one. Three goals in the first period put them in control.
We had called for the away side in our preview, 43 per cent confidence. Not a bold prediction on paper, but by then you could see what Seattle were about — pace, space, and the willingness to take it to the opposition. Calgary simply didn't match that energy.
The visitors have kept three clean sheets on the spin across their last four outings, and they didn't need one here. They had the goals to spare. Calgary's defence looked disjointed from the opening shifts, caught between who was marking whom.
Seventeen shots to six, according to the numbers. You don't need much more than that to put six past a goaltender. Calgary picked up a goal anyway, but it felt like a consolation rather than a statement.
Both sides sit at zero games in the table now, zero points — the season has just started and there isn't much to read into it. What matters is the run Seattle have built, and the one Calgary are trying to recover from.
