J.P. Barry told reporters that Vancouver has not asked the Canucks forward to waive the protection. "No, that has not happened. I think a proper offer would have had to come in for that. I will be honest: deals across the whole league have been very, very difficult. There were a number of other players we thought could have been traded, but there were very few deals. So I think it is getting harder and harder to sell a valuable player," Barry said.
Barry's account leaves the situation with the Canucks unresolved rather than settled: no request has been made, and by his own description no offer has arrived that would force the question.
