Dylan Larkin to miss start of Red Wings training camp
Detroit forward Dylan Larkin, recently stripped of the captaincy, will rehab an upper-body injury with the team, GM Sean Horcoff says, hoping for a pre-season return.
Dylan Larkin will miss the start of Detroit's training camp because of an upper-body injury picked up in an off-ice session earlier this week, acting general manager Sean Horcoff has confirmed.
Larkin, who requested a trade and was stripped of the Red Wings captaincy on 11 September, will rehab with the team.
"He's going to need some time to recover. As soon as we have more clarity on a timeline for his return, we'll let everyone know," Horcoff said.
Horcoff added that the club hopes to have Larkin back before the end of the pre-season. "At some point, once he's feeling better, we'll certainly start getting him going on the ice, and he'll be back practising with the team. But there's no specific timeline right now," he said.
Horcoff, recently installed as acting general manager, said he holds full authority over hockey operations, including any Larkin trade, but declined to comment on the status of the player's trade request.
Larkin's contract carries a cap hit of $8.7 million and runs through the 2030/31 season. It includes a no-trade clause, meaning any move requires the forward's consent.
