Slovan Bratislava Considering Move to Czech Extraliga
Slovan Bratislava may leave the Slovak league for the Czech Extraliga and plan to present a proposal in late September, though league director Loukota is cautious.
Slovan Bratislava are considering a move from the Slovak league to the Czech Extraliga, and plan to present a proposal to the league and its clubs at the end of September, according to iDNES.cz.
Martin Loukota, the league’s director, was cautious.
Loukota added that the move could bring the competition sporting and economic benefits, boost attendances and secure sponsorship deals. It would also need the approval of the Czech Ice Hockey Federation, subject to the existing salary cap.
It would not be Slovan's first attempt. The club tried to join the Extraliga in 2011 alongside Košice, and revisited the option in 2015. Slovan played in the KHL from 2012 to 2019, then returned to the Slovak league.
