KHL president Alexei Morozov said the league backs RUSADA over the Vladislav Kamenev case, and that the former CSKA forward could still play in the KHL this season if a club signs him by 25 January. A website carried his comments.
Meldonium was found in Kamenev's system in 2025. Asked how he rated the outcome, a 2-year ban handed down last summer, Morozov answered: "We fully support RUSADA's actions in the fight against doping and believe there must be clean sport in the KHL. It is no accident that we signed a new agreement with RUSADA for this season and increased the number of samples the players give."
He then set out the course of the case. "As far as I know, Kamenev appealed the original decision, a 4-year ban. In the end the presence of a prohibited substance in his sample was confirmed all the same, but the ban was cut to 2 years," Morozov said.
On the deadline he said: "Vladislav may even play in the KHL this season if any club signs a contract with him before 25 January. He can start training with a team 2 months before the end of the ban, that is, before the deadline."
The ban runs out on 15 March 2027.
If a club does act before the deadline, Kamenev could be back in the league for the closing stretch of the season. Morozov named no club and gave no sign that one has approached the player.
