Vyacheslav Fetisov, the two-time Olympic champion who now sits in the State Duma, has waved away the alarm over Alexander Ovechkin's preseason absence.
The 41-year-old Washington captain missed several practices and every exhibition fixture with a lower-body injury. Fetisov does not think that adds up to much.
Fetisov, who played until he was 40, drew on his own experience: near the end of his career he had an arrangement that let him sit out back-to-back games when the team did not need him. He said something similar is likely in place for Ovechkin and Washington now, and wished the captain and the club a good start to the season.
