Vasilevskiy and Shesterkin Rated NHL's Top Goaltenders

The Athletic asked eight goaltending coaches and two former NHL goaltenders to rank the league's netminders, and Andrei Vasilevskiy and Igor Shesterkin came out on top.

Each expert graded goaltenders on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 the best possible mark. The final list is the average of those scores. Vasilevskiy, of Tampa Bay, and Shesterkin, of the Rangers, both finished with a perfect 1.0.

Ilya Sorokin, of the Islanders, came third on 1.1. Connor Hellebuyck, of Winnipeg, was fourth on 1.4, and Jeremy Swayman, of Boston, fifth on 1.7.

Logan Thompson of Washington and Jake Oettinger of Dallas shared sixth place on 2.0. Sergei Bobrovsky, of Toronto, was eighth on 2.4, with Lukas Dostal of Anaheim and Juuse Saros of Nashville tied for ninth on 2.5.

Further down the list, Yaroslav Askarov, of San Jose, was ranked 36th on 4.1. Two other goaltenders with roots in the KHL system, Sergei Murashov of Pittsburgh and Petr Kochetkov of Carolina, shared 41st-42nd place on 4.5.
