Abigail Mackenzie Smith

Abby Smith has spent a decade moving through the NWSL rather than settling anywhere for long. Portland brought her in from Kansas City in 2021 in a straight swap for Adrianna Franch, and the following year she picked up an NWSL Championship medal with the Thorns, even though she did not play in the final.

She started 15 league matches in 2023 and kept four clean sheets, earning NWSL Team of the Month honours and a Player of the Week award, before a season-ending injury in August cut her year short. Gotham went on to win the championship without her on the pitch. A loan spell in Australia with Western Sydney Wanderers and further stops at Houston Dash followed, before she signed with expansion side Denver Summit FC for its inaugural 2026 season, where she has made 20 appearances.

Internationally, Smith's clearest achievement dates back to her youth career: she was part of the United States squad that won the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. She was later called into senior USWNT camps for friendlies in 2017 and 2018, though she has not earned a senior cap. Her college career at Texas left a mark of its own — she set the school record for career shutouts, form that earned her back-to-back All-Big 12 First Team selections.
