About the player
Justin Butler was born in Augsburg and came up through FC Augsburg's youth ranks before moving to the Bayern Munich academy, where he made a single appearance for the second team in the 2018–2019 season. He holds German citizenship and has also attended a training camp with the United States U-18 side, though he has not earned caps for either country at senior or youth level.
He then joined Borussia Dortmund II on a free transfer, playing 25 times and scoring once, before a January move to SV Sandhausen brought him 13 further appearances.
Butler signed for FC Energie Cottbus on a free transfer in July 2025. A right-footed forward who operates as a left winger or attacking midfielder, he has yet to win a major title or individual award, but his move to Cottbus continues a career built entirely on free transfers between clubs.
