About the player
Kat Asman's first two seasons as a professional showed how far a goalkeeper's career can drift from the plan on draft night. Portland Thorns FC picked her in the third round of the 2024 NWSL Draft, 39th overall, and she signed a one-year deal, but she spent the year as third-choice and never played a competitive minute before the club let her go. Orlando Pride handed her a fresh two-year contract that December, and again she spent the year as third-choice.
Loaned to Lexington SC in the USL Super League for the 2025–2026 season, Asman started all 28 regular-season matches and kept 12 clean sheets, a league record. Lexington won the championship, with Asman playing through both the semi-final and the final, and she was named the league's Golden Glove winner for the season.
That form was enough to earn her a new loan, this time to Denver Summit FC, the NWSL's newest expansion side, for 2026. Before turning professional, Asman played college soccer at Penn State and trained with United States youth national teams up to under-18 level without earning senior caps.
