Nikolaus Wurmbrand

Nikolaus Wurmbrand needed four minutes to leave his mark in an Austria shirt. Sent on as a substitute in the 72nd minute against San Marino on 9 October 2025, he scored in the 76th to make it 8-0 in what finished a 10-0 win, his first senior goal on his first senior appearance for the national team.

He came through Rapid Wien's own pipeline. He started out at Nußdorfer AC before joining the Rapid academy at the age of ten, working his way through every youth age group and then through Rapid Wien II, first in the Regionalliga East and then in the 2. Liga, before being promoted to the first team in 2024.

His senior debut for Rapid came in the UEFA Europa League play-offs against Braga on 29 August 2024. Two weeks later he scored on his Bundesliga debut, against Wolfsberger AC, converting a chance set up by Mamadou Sangaré. In December that year he had his best night in Europe so far, scoring twice as Rapid beat FC Copenhagen 3-0 in the UEFA Conference League.

Wurmbrand has also represented Austria at U16, U18, U19 and U21 level on his way to the senior side. He has not yet won a major trophy with Rapid, though he has been part of the squad through their recent European campaigns in the Conference League and Europa League.
