On 12 June 2026, a promotion/relegation playoff against PVF-CAND went to extra time and finished 1-1. In the shootout, goalkeeper Huỳnh Tuấn Linh saved three penalties, and Bắc Ninh went through 5-4 to reach V.League 1.

The team exists because the Bắc Ninh Provincial People's Committee approved a football development project in late 2023, and the resulting club took over the Second Division place left by the dissolved Gia Dinh FC. Runner-up in the Second Division in 2024, promoted the following year, runner-up again in the National First Division in 2025-26, then the playoff win that settled the final step to the top flight for 2026-27.

Park Hang-seo, who managed the Vietnam national team, signed on as Senior Advisor in February 2024, tasked with the club's strategic direction and its youth academy. Hoang Anh Tuan took over as technical director and head coach in March 2025. The club has yet to win a league title in professional football; its one trophy so far, the Chào Xuân Friendly Cup, came in 2024.

There's a name for the club in Vietnamese football writing that has nothing to do with any of this: Bắc Bling, borrowed from a local song, alongside the more formal "Team of Kinh Bac," a nod to the historical region rather than to the modern province. A club by the name of Công an Hà Bắc played in the same area until it folded in 1996.

Matches are played at Việt Yên Stadium, built with a first phase holding 7,500 people and room, on paper, for a second phase that would take it to 22,000.
