Bandari

A league title has eluded Bandari FC twice at the final hurdle, in 2017 and again in 2018/19, and the Kenyan Premier League remains the target that keeps slipping past them each time they get close. The Dockers, as they are known around Mombasa, carry a name that translates from Swahili as "harbours" or "ports" — a direct nod to the city's working waterfront.

They play in blue and white at the Mombasa Municipal Stadium, a ground locals still call Mbaraki, and its 10,000 seats fill fastest for the Mombasa Derby against Congo United and Mombasa Stars.

Silverware has come in cups rather than the league: the FKF President's Cup in 2015, then the SportPesa Shield in 2019. Before either of those, the club had to fight its way back into the top flight altogether, winning the FKF Division One Zone A title in 2012 to secure promotion after a spell that had seen Bandari relegated in 1997 and the club itself dissolved two years later. It took until 2004 for Bandari to be revived, and until 2008 to return to the Premier League.

The name goes back further still, to a 1986 merger between the Kenya Ports Authority's works team and Cargo Football Club — itself grown out of LASCO Football Club, which had been playing under that name since 1960.
