Josh Allen takes a snap at Highmark Stadium the way the franchise has come to define itself for the men who watched three straight championship trophies leave Buffalo in the 1960s and never quite come back the same way since. The team he leads was chartered in 1960 as one of the original American Football League clubs, put together by owner Ralph C. Wilson, Jr., and it took the name Bills as a nod to Buffalo Bill Cody.
Those AFL years gave the club its first identity: back-to-back-to-back league titles in 1964, 1965 and 1966. The next mark left on the record books came in the opposite key.
Buffalo–New England has carried the sharper edge of the rivalries over the years, a divisional fight with the New York Jets running alongside it.
