A year later they went back and settled the matter, beating FyllingenBergen 23–21 to win the cup outright, then reached a third final in 2017 and lost that one too, to Drammen HK.

Founded in 1953, with Leif Pedersen as its first chairman, BHK has spent most of its competitive life shuttling between Norway's top flight and the tier below it. The club reached the Eliteserien in 2007, dropped down in 2010, climbed back for 2012 and stayed seven seasons before finishing twelfth again and going down. Their nearest brush with the title itself came in 2014–15, when they finished second in the league the same year they lifted the cup.

Børge Lund ties the whole period together. He played for the club, won world and European titles with the Norwegian national team, and came back to coach BHK from 2013 to 2021 — meaning the cup final run of 2014, 2015 and 2017 happened under a man who had already won everything there was to win as a player.

The club plays in yellow and blue out of Bodø Spektrum, and its local rivalry with IK Junkeren is complicated by the two clubs mostly fielding teams in different gender categories, which blunts the derby edge without erasing it. After winning the 2. Divisjon in 2023, BHK is back in the 1. Divisjon, one step below the top flight it has twice fallen out of.
