Adauto Iglesias left Mieres for Real Madrid in 1947. Gregorio "Goyín" Villagrá had gone the shorter distance five years earlier, to Real Oviedo, where he built the rest of his career in La Liga.

That pitch, the Estadio Hermanos Antuña, seats 2,940 on its own, a figure that can be pushed to 4,500 when temporary stands go up for the bigger nights.

No club has won Tercera División (Group 2) as often as Caudal. The title has come to Mieres sixteen times, and four Copa Federación de España wins, the last in 2020, sit alongside it. The club's only real taste of the second tier came between 1951 and 1959, seven seasons that peaked with fourth place in 1955–56.

Against UP Langreo the fixture carries its own name, the Derby de la Cuenca Minera.

The club itself began under another name. Founded on 6 July 1918 as Racing Club de Mieres, it became Caudal Deportivo only after the Civil War, when foreign-language names were banned.
