Podvinci

League football in the eastern reaches of the Ptuj municipality tends to be settled by geography as much as anything else — a village side plays the neighbouring village side, year after year, and the fixture carries more weight locally than anything in the standings. Podvinci's rivalries run along exactly those lines, drawn from the cluster of amateur clubs that make up the region's lower divisions rather than from any name recognised outside it.

NK Podvinci was formed in 1979 to give the village something of its own, alongside the fire brigade and the Korant society that anchor the same small community. It has kept its name since. The club plays in the eastern section of Slovenia's third tier, where NZS rules bar clubs from signing players to professional contracts — a level built for people who have jobs on the weekdays and a match on the weekend.

The clearest measure of what Podvinci has achieved sits not in the national record books, which show nothing, but in the regional ones: the club has been champion of MNZ Ptuj, the inter-municipal football union covering the area around the town. That title carried it to the veterans' finals tournament in 2019, where Podvinci reached the final before losing out to NK Kočevje.

The team plays its home matches at Igrišče Podvinci, a ground that holds around 600 — modest even by third-tier standards, and one of the reasons some databases list the club with no listed capacity at all. Squads run the full span from the U-7s through to the veterans who took the club to that 2019 final, the kind of structure a village builds when the point was never to climb the divisions but to have a team to call its own in the first place.
