Potsdam Women

In September 2025, SC Potsdam withdrew from the 1. Bundesliga. The club had failed to secure a licence for the season after running into financial insolvency, and the club simply was not there for the new campaign.

That collapse followed the best run the women's section had put together. The department itself dates to December 1996, folded into a parent club founded decades earlier, and it took until 2009 to reach the Bundesliga at all. Once in the top flight, Potsdam kept coming up just short of the biggest prizes: runners-up in the German Championship in 2022, and beaten in three separate DVV Cup finals, in 2021, 2023 and 2024. The one trophy that did go to Potsdam was the 2022 VBL Supercup, won 3–1 against Allianz MTV Stuttgart — the club against which most of those other finals were lost too, a rivalry that followed Potsdam into European ties as well.
