In May 2025, Shabab Al Ahli lifted the UAE Pro League trophy in the colours it has carried since 2017. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum ordered the merger of three Dubai clubs — Al Shabab, Al Ahli and the Dubai Club — on 15 May 2017, folding their separate histories into one side chaired by Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
What the new club inherited was not a blank slate but a ledger. Titles won by Al Shabab and Al Ahli decades earlier now count as Shabab Al Ahli's own. The nickname changed with the identity — Al Ahli had been known as the Red Devils until 2006, when it rebranded, and the merged club later settled on Al Fursan Al Humur, the Red Knights, keeping the red-and-white colours that both predecessor clubs already shared.
Ahmed Khalil carried that identity through the transition on the pitch, and in 2015 he was named Asia's best player. Off it, Fabio Cannavaro passed through as a player in 2010–11 before returning in a technical role. Leonardo Jardim took the club to the 2022–23 league title before Paulo Sousa took over as head coach in 2024.
