Sharks

In 2019, LIU Brooklyn and LIU Post pooled their separate football histories into a single roster and christened it the Sharks.

The Depression shut the team down once; the war shut it down again. It came back in 1957 at the C.W. Post campus wearing a new name, Pioneers, and stayed there until the 2019 unification folded both Long Island campuses' programmes together.

Perry Klein, the 1993 NCAA Division II Player of the Year, is the name still cited when the conversation turns to quarterbacks, and he was good enough to get drafted by the Atlanta Falcons. Clay Beathard took the job at the other end of the timeline, starting under centre in the first season the merged team played at the FCS level.

The Sharks play home games at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium in Brookville. Wagner, across the water on Staten Island, remains the rivalry that matters most.

Between the Blackbirds and Pioneers eras, the program collected eighteen conference titles — Metropolitan Intercollegiate, Liberty Football, Eastern Football, Northeast-10, Pennsylvania State Athletic — and reached the Division II playoffs six times, going furthest in 2005 with a run to the quarterfinals. Since the name changed to Sharks in 2019, that column has stayed blank: no conference championship, no playoff berth.
