Sporting Braga

Sporting Braga's women admitted no history to build on when the club put a team together in the spring of 2016. They went straight into the Primeira Divisão, the top flight of Portuguese women's football. Three seasons later they were champions, going through the whole 2018–19 campaign unbeaten and taking the title off Sporting CP under coach Miguel Santos.

The badge, the red-and-white shirt, the identity all carry over from the men's side, whose own history stretches back to 1921. The women's team plays at the Estádio Amélia Morais, named after a supporter of the club, holding somewhere around 2,000 to 2,500 people.

After the 2018–19 title came a Portuguese Cup in 2019–20 and, that same season, a first entry into the UEFA Women's Champions League, where Braga reached the round of 32 before Paris Saint-Germain ended the run. A League Cup followed in 2021–22, and a second cup final in 2022–23 was lost to Famalicão. Locally, the fixture that matters most is against Vitória Guimarães, the Derby do Minho, carrying the old rivalry between Braga and Guimarães onto the pitch.

Dolores Silva captained the side through most of that run, went to the 2023 World Cup with Portugal, and left for Levante in 2025.
