Nobody plays a full ninety at Estadio Municipal Distrito 5, but that is where Club Virginia U.S.C. built whatever it has, one regional fixture at a time. The club, whose full name spells out United Soccer Club, grew out of Distrito 5 in Santa Cruz de la Sierra in 2013, and it has stayed tied to the Asociación Cruceña de Fútbol ever since, working its way through the regional leagues rather than any national stage.

Its clearest business lately has been the Copa Simón Bolívar, Bolivia's second tier, which the club reached again this year after clearing the Santa Cruz phase. That put it in Group D with Deportivo San Martín of Tarija, Tiquipaya of Cochabamba and Universitario del Beni — opponents from three different corners of the country.

Form has held up in the meantime. In May, Virginia beat Ciudad Nueva Santa Cruz 3-1 in the Bolivian Reserve Cup, and by July it had added a 1-0 win over Integración del Norte San Juan. Neither result carries a trophy. The club has no honours to point to and no nickname that has stuck, which leaves the group stage as the thing worth watching.
