Wattens cruise to four-goal victory at Planet Pure Stadium
WSG Wattens defeated Austria Lustenau 4-0 in the Bundesliga Regular Season fifth round at Planet Pure Stadium on Thursday evening. The visitors made it clear from the opening exchanges that they were not travelling to make up the numbers, and their performance reflected that intention.
The breakthrough came in the forty-second minute when Michael Olakigbe found the net. The goal shifted the complexion of the game, and to be fair, Lustenau's defence had been under pressure for some time before the breakthrough. The hosts had created two big chances of their own but could not convert them.
Nikolai Baden Frederiksen doubled the lead just after the restart in the fifty-second minute. By then the visitors had switched to a more aggressive approach, pressing high up the pitch and cutting Lustenau open at will. The home side's keeper managed two saves but could not stop the momentum building.
Markus Striednig added a third in the sixtieth minute before a VAR penalty in the sixty-fourth minute set up Frederiksen to complete his brace. The penalty decision came after Drew Murray was brought down, and the Danish striker made no mistake from the spot. Phillip Bohm and Moritz Oswald picked up yellow cards during the period of dominance.
The statistics tell a story of efficiency rather than domination. Wattens registered six shots on target from eight attempts, achieving a 43 per cent accuracy rate compared to Lustenau's 25 per cent. The visitors created six big chances against two for the hosts, and the conversion rate was starkly different.
The result moves Wattens into eighth place on four points from four games, while Lustenau remain seventh with five points after five matches. The visitors extended their recent form with a convincing away performance, and the hosts will need to find a response after a heavy defeat.
